Malibu Stage Company Seeks New AD

Richard Johnson, the Malibu Stage Company’s artistic director has announced that he is  stepping down to pursue other projects.
“Richard has done a phenomenal job of injecting so much life and five great seasons, since taking over in 2008,”  Geoff Ortiz, MSC board chair, said.
“As acting Artistic Director for Malibu Stage Company for the last four years, Johnson has applied his renaissance talents toward selecting and directing, producing and/or acting in many Malibu Stage Company Productions,”
“Rick Johnson’s contributions toward resuscitating and breathing new life into Malibu Stage Company have gone beyond measure and we’re so sorry to lose him, but now we have to start the difficult process of finding a successor,” said Ortiz, adding that a search committee has been formed and will be taking applications for the position and reviewing them to present the best candidates to the board in late October.
“The new AD “will need to be someone who is an experienced theatre professional, has leadership skills, personal drive and the creative wherewithal to take the Malibu Stage Company to the next level. We will be looking for submissions from qualified professionals who can bring that rarest of combinations—creativity and ingenuity—to the table,” said search committee and board member Victoria Sterling.
“As the position of Artistic Director of this famous non-profit stage company has in the past been non-salaried,” the release states.
“We’ll also be looking for that special person who is able to perform these considerable duties for the love of the theatre, with the understanding that with growth, there will be the possibility of compensation,” said Sterling.
“I have been blessed to be able to function as I have over the last five years,” Johnson said, “enabled in no small measure by an exceptionally classic venue and a terrific board of directors.”
Johnson will be producing the upcoming musical “Cabaret” with Dick Van Dyke, and will also continue to teach the Malibu Stage Repertory acting classes.
Qualified professionals are encouraged to email a cover letter and resumé to: MSCADsearch2012@gmail.com.
